Telescreens Opening for Franz Ferdinand in Vancouver (Review/Gallery)

"Lets Go Baby!"

March 25, 2025 – The American Telescreens made their presence known in their first trip North of the border, opening for Franz Ferdinand. Having not been familiar with this band going into the night. I came out thinking that they’d be an even better watch in some sweaty cramped venue. After looking them up, I can see why they’ve been hammering their way up the NYC underground scene.

One knock I did have on the set, was the sound. But I have a hard time faulting the band for that. It wasn’t the worst sound, it was just that the mix was a bit too loud and everything was fighting to be heard. But honestly, it didn’t really take away much from the set. It was all about the energy from the guys on stage. Led masterfully by lead singer/guitarist, Jackson Hamm. Who brings a punk rock charisma but in a way that he does give a damn, if that makes sense. But most notably you can see the influence, Franz Ferdinand’s, Alex Kapranos has had on Hamm. Who stated that they were opening for his favourite band. While the music is different, I could see how the Telescreens could grow their way into the next Franz Ferdinand. As for the rest of the band, they play their parts, it’s just they’re sharing the stage with someone who begs your attention to follow. Not unlike the band who would soon play after them.

"We've never been to Canada Before."

In all, as I stated in my Franz Ferdinand review, I’d recommend checking these guys out. I’m definitely interested to see where they go from here. And they don’t need a hit to take me out to one of their shows, next time they’re in town.

"We'll be in the pit drinking beer, come say hi."

"Enjoy the rest of your night and the great Franz Ferdinand."
