Larkin Poe Bring The Blues To Vancouver

On Friday February 3, 2023. The walls of the Commodore Ballroom held Larkin Poe, and their adoring fans, a few of which I met, right at the barricade who travelled just to see their favourite band.  Vancouver didn’t make the best of impressions right from the jump, or at least one drunk jackass didn’t. It wasn’t even thirty seconds into the show that Singer/Guitarist, Rebecca Lovell had to stop the show to get rid of a guy that was getting rough with some women in the crowd. Security had to step in and pull the said man, over the barricade, and presumably out of the building. After the dust settled, all was forgotten and it was time to rock. The rest of the night going off without a hitch.

The two Lovell sisters, Rebecca, and her sister Megan tore up the stage, with both searing vocals, guitar and Megan’s, lap steel. Despite the rain and wind going on, outside the Commodore, inside it was hot, and rocking. Playing both old songs a new, the Lovell sisters, and their band had the crowd enthralled. There isn’t much more you could ask of them (other than if they played someone’s *ahem* favourite song of theirs, “Georgia Off My Mind.”) But alas, they didn’t, and I still had a great time.

If you’re new to Larkin Poe, go listen to their latest record, Blood Harmony. It was one of my top three albums of last year, and you won’t be disappointed.

Without further ado, here are the shots from the show.

"Since we're coming to you from down south. We of course have to present to you a little bit of Southern Rock and roll."

"Over there playing the slide guitar, is my big sister, Megan Lovel!"

"Thank you. That's my baby, my baby sister, rEBECCA lOVELL!"

"Man, it fells good to be back...it's been a long time coming y'all. Thank you for going old school and buying vinyl. That's what I'm talking about!"

"Now my sister and I grew up from a very young age playing roots, American music...This next one is performed in tribute and in honour of one of our biggest inspirations...The one and only Son House."

"...sometimes you need to write your own anthem. So we're going to dedicate this one to our ladies, right up here in the front."

"I just snatched a piece of lint out of this air."

"...on this next tune we gotta let the slide Queen rip."

"Are you still feeling' good? Make sure you're stayin' hydrated, ladies and gentlemen."

"How are you feeling Vancouver? I know it's been a long night in a pretty toasty room. But are you feeling alright?"

If you’ve made it this far. Were you at the show? What did you think?
