TURN IT UP TUESDAY: Florence and the Machine

This weeks album as you might’ve discerned from the title is from Florence And The Machine. I will be attending the show tonight, so I thought it fitting that the album this Tuesday was by them. I contemplated exactly which one it would be. Would it be the album that introduced me to the band? Though it was really their song “Seven Devils” that pulled me in. The song so perfectly placed in a Game of Thrones trailer, and in various television episodes, heightening the song itself for me. They were so different from what I was listening to at the time, but I was drawn in by the booming voice of Miss. Florence Welsh. When I looked up the band the next song I listened or really watched (as it was the music video) was “Spectrum”. I can’t even tell you how many times I replayed the song. Let’s just say a lot may not be adequate. As for the rest of the album? It just connected. It was almost as if it was the exact thing I needed at that moment in time.

I thought I’d made up my mind before writing this, but thinking of 2011’s Ceremonials has me questioning my decision. So lets do this…This Tuesday we will have a double feature. The aforementioned Ceremonials, and their newest album, Dance Fever.

I’m not going to lie. When I first heard the title of Dance Fever, I gulped. Oh, no, I thought. The dance pop machine has found its way to Florence and the Machine. Thankfully I couldn’t have been more wrong. Though the bands single “My Love” did give me pause. After countless listens I no longer thing that of the song (That song is what dance music should be). J

ust like Ceremonials, I really connected with Dance Fever. I could feel it, if you allow me to slightly pretentious about it. I think this is the best album they’ve put out. It’s my favourite, for sure. It brings together all of their previous work and flavours and nails it. Whether it be Welsh’s envy inducing vocals, or the band behind her, layered to perfection. It hits. This album also I think got me at the right moment. I think I’d like it just as much, but there’s just something more to it. I can’t quite put it into words. My favourite being the finale, “Morning Elvis”.
