Sometimes it’s better to discover an artist’s recorded work, before you see any of their live stuff. Watching videos of Samantha Fish live, makes it almost impossible to put on the album versions of the songs. That’s just how good she is live. It was on YouTube five or so years ago that I first discovered Fish. I’m not exactly sure how I got to her, but I’m glad I did. This weeks Turn It Up Tuesday is a little different. It comes in the form of Samantha Fish’s 2015 performance on Don Odell’s Legends. It was were I was introduced to her, and you should be too. She was there promoting her album, Wild Heart.
Fish’s band then consisted of herself on vocals and guitar. GoGo Ray on Drums, and Chris Alexander on bass. This three piece is all that is needed to bring forth what’s needed for each and every song, whether it be more of a rocker like “Bitch On The Run” and “Turn It Up” or bringing it down for the more tender moments like “I’m In Love With You” and “Go Home”. All of this is led expertly by Fish, who’s serious guitar chops get to shine on the up-tempo tunes, and who’s vocals draw you in for the slower moments.
Heed my warning, it’s hard not to go down the Samantha Fish live rabbit hole. But I highly recommend it.
If someone out there affiliated with Samantha Fish or Don Odell, really anyone that could put out these performances as an audio record…come on…
The Top Video is Turn It Up, because…obviously. Below that is the playlist.
If you’ve made it this far I’ll reward you with a link to her 2018 Audiotree performance. Luckily in audio only form.
What’s your favourite song?
Also, don’t hesitate to add your suggestions.
And if you missed last weeks recommendation, you can find it here. The band is Dead Sara the album…
